Chester Travel Information

Chester doesn't have an integrated transport system which means local trains and buses operate independently of each other. You can't buy a travel card to use across all types of transport in the city and beyond. See below for some other ticket options.

Chester Air Travel
The closest airports to Chester are Manchester and Liverpool and both are within easy travelling distance of the city centre. Manchester offers the bigger selection of flights of the two.

Chester Railways
Chester has relatively good rail links to the rest of the UK. There are direct services to London Euston, Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff, Crewe and Birmingham. Most destinations south west can be reached by changing at Birimingham.

Chester Road Transport
Chester has limited public road transport. National Express operate services to London, Manchester and Birmingham. For local bus users, Stagecoach and Arriva operate services in the city.

Chester Waterways
Chester is rightly proud of its position on the River Dee and both public and private pleasure boats use the water. From local tours along the River Dee to canal trips to Ellesmere Port, there is a lot on offer.

Chester Driving Information
Driving through Chester is very difficult to say the least! Through routes within the city centre are limited by the City Walls, with St Martin's Way and St Oswald's Way being the two main routes through Chester.
