Cardiff is a young, vibrant city thanks in part to its large student population. The main universities in the city are Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University (formerly UWIC) and the University of South Wales (a merger of the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport).

The city's nightlife is dependent on students during the week with various student promotions in the many bars and clubs. Most shops in the city offer student discounts too so always ask before you hand over your cash.
