Travelodge is a budget hotel chain with over 500 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain. Hotels are of a minimal design, modern but basic. The rooms are en-suite and a good size but lack the attention to detail of other chains. Pricing is flexible, ranging from £25 to £100 and more.

Each hotel has a 24 hour reception and many have a small cafe bar where the buffet breakfast and other light meals are served (some just offer a 'breakfast bag'). Rooms are generally clean, en-suite and a good size. The finish of many rooms can be poor with large gaps under the room door and window ventilation fixed open so outside noise can always be heard. Corridor doors are prone to slamming and noise from lifts can be very loud. There is no phone in the room so contact with reception is difficult if there is a problem with noise from neighbouring rooms. Security can be rather low with late night noise a serious problem. Like the rooms, a lot of problems with Travelodge could be solved if more attention to the customer experience was made. The automatic room allocation means that business travellers or families are put next to party goers. This is the major flaw in the brand.

Our experience with Travelodge Customer Services was extremely disappointing. Complaints about the hotel stayed at was just forwarded back to the hotel in question and there seemed to be no interest from the Customer Service department. It took nearly two months and many emails, several without a reply, before we received a serious reply. We suggest that you raise any problems with the hotel before you depart as most (not all) managers are professional and quite reasonable. Because of this we would only recommend city centre Travelodges to party goers or for a 'crash-pad'.

Popular with a wide range of travellers on a budget. Some clientele leave a lot to be desired though. Weekends can be noisy with stag and hen parties up until the early morning. With Travelodge your experience is very hit and miss. You could have a wonderful night's sleep in a clean, modern room for a sale price of £25, or have a night from hell after spending a lot, lot more.
