Dudley Zoological Gardens
Castle Hill, Dudley. DY1 4QF • (01384) 215313
Dudley Zoological Gardens is unique - a zoo with hundreds of animals set around an 11th century castle incorporating the world’s largest single collection of Tecton buildings and the country's only vintage chairlift. All sited on a 40 acre wooded hillside with a rich geological history.
You can visit the Lemur Wood, a one-acre walkthrough experience where you can meet more than 30 free-roaming red ruffed/black-and-white/ringed tail/black lemurs, or see the Humboldt Penguins, Wallaby Walkthrough or Lion Ridge with three Asiatic lions.
Dudley Castle was founded shortly after the Norman Conquest of 1066. Now in ruins, it is still quite spectacular in its size and former grandeur.
